What peace means to Shabnam

To me, peace is a movement. It is a movement against ignorance, against pessimism.”

To me, peace is a movement. It is a movement against ignorance, against pessimism.”

I am 19 years old Shabnam from Dhaka, currently doing my BBA from Institute of Business Administration, University of Dhaka. Reading books is my hobby and aiding people in need is my passion.

Since childhood, I wanted to be the voice of the unsung heroes, the shield of the oppressed. It bothered me that there were no absolute solution to all these injustice and cruelty, domination and parting going around the world in the name of politics and supremacy. I did not know the way to peace.

However, I knew that the only way out of the darkness engulfing the society at present is education. I believed that no children of a modern society should remain uneducated. Following my desire, I got acquainted with the “Jhilimili Project”. It was an initiative taken by IBA seniors to assist the street children in covering their basic education.

Being an instructor at Jhilimili was life changing for me. For the first time I got to recognise little angels who were already earning at such a young age. It was surprising how they had the innocence of a child yet the practicality of an adult. I taught them about letters and alphabets, but they taught me about life. It brought me peace.
